The Cape Girardeau County Food Code, adopted November 20, 2008 requires that all managers and food handlers employed in food establishments located in Cape Girardeau County be trained in food safety. This requirement became mandatory on January 15, 2012.

Required training can be met by attending the Basic Food Sanitation Class, an in-person, two hour program offered at the Cape Girardeau County Public Health Center, or an online course via StateFoodSafety.
